I want to believe that Mane6 still manage to make that game.
I want to believe that Hasbro aren't going to hunt down fan projects.
I want to believe that Fighting is Magic.
All the hope. Fingers crossed and all that.
Guys from Mane6 - I'm with you. You're awesome no matter what!
So I'm continuing this series.
And... welp! The last time I said that I might gone over the top, this time I'm convinced that I did. And the reason been that there's actually two or three layers of the background that you can not see because of layers above them. And it's all mashed up in one big crazy... thing... that you seeing. And probably no one except me will understand what's going on here. I mean, this scene happens in the library and there is a drawing of the library below all that: floor, walls, bookshelfs. With details and all that stuff. Can you see it? I doubt it. I can only hope that it still looks good.
So, as usual, I'll explain it a bit (this explanation part almost becoming a thing to me):
- Twi fighting Twi (in the library)
- One of them uses level 3 special
- The other one jumps away and blocks, but shock wave still hits her
- Library got terrably distroyed
"What is going on on this picture?"
I feel like this is gonna be the first thing many viewers will think.
All and all I've learned that I need to think through my art harder and better or I will do a lot of work that will not be seen.
But I hope you enjoyed it.
Once again - all hopes for Fighting is Magic. I'm not giving up.
So, basically, problem is in US copyright law and that one guy that decided to ruin everything by pointing it out to Hasbro.
The fact that Mane6 was non-profit and public about their development would not help that much. The only way it would is if MLP was a fair use IP or Hasbro desided to go out of their way and actually support this development. Also non-profit way of doing things is safer in case if Hasbro would found out. In case if they were making money out of it, it could be not C&D but a lawsuit.
As for fan art, mods, plushies and stuff - Hasbro deliberetly closing their eyes on that. And by that I mean - they do not search it.
Yep, I also don't give up on it.
Since the main complaint of Hasbro was, that the Mane 6 beating the hoofs out of eachother my suggestion would be to add more characters from the beginning and make it impossible to choose two of the Mane 6 as opponents. Changelings, Iron Will, Diamond Dogs. MLP has a nice variety of enemys for the game.
Hasbro also doesn't really hunts them all down. They just want to make sure that noone screws up their license. I personally dont see anything bad in fighting games but since Hasbro doesnt wants that their show is related to violence (even when its cartoony and unbloody) they go against it. In general they even approve fan projects for the simple fact that they get free advertisement through this (Hasbro is smarter than most other companies).
